According to AMC press materials, season one of The Son follows two concurrent time periods. The first features the story of young Eli McCullough (Lofland) after he is kidnapped and indoctrinated into a tribe of Comanches in 1849. The second kicks off 60 years later. Now grown, Eli (Brosnan) struggles to maintain his family’s cattle empire during the turbulent Bandit Wars of South Texas.

Like many of the network’s series, past and present, it’s got a strong current of testosterone running through it and a special interest in exploring the motivations of a man with an eroded connection to his conscience. Like the late Hell on Wheels, it’s a Western, one that regularly toggles between two key periods in the life of its protagonist, Eli McCullough: 1849, when Eli (portrayed as a teen by Justified’s Jacob Lofland) is taken captive by Comanches, and 1915, when Eli, as played by Pierce Brosnan, has become an old, powerful, and unscrupulous South Texas rancher who’s determined to mine his land for lucrative oil.
Gonzales welcomes 'The Son' - Gonzales Inquirer - per Gonzalesinquirer
GONZALES — Actor Pierce Brosnan may be best known for his portrayal of Bond – James Bond in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, or Die Another Day. Some fans may remember him from his hit television Show Remington Steele. Younger generations may have loved him in Mrs. Doubtfire or The Thomas Crown Affair; but one thing is for sure, Gonzales definitely welcomed the beloved actor with open arms and lined the streets on Tuesday to catch a glimpse of him in action.
The Son Episode 10 Review: Scalps - Den of Geek US - via Denofgeek
Eli McCullough (Pierce Brosnan) is a fair man. He’s a patient man, a deliberate man. Yet, even he hesitates on the verge of a war that has come to his door step and engulfed neighbors in flames of hatred. He hesitates only long enough to think of the right words. He already dawdled long enough, and it cost the town its favorite watering hole. The Texas tavern lays in ashes and there’s a thirsty posse just begging for an excuse to wet their whistles. The Sheriff is no real help. He deals with the dilemma of justice, while being goaded into a fight. The Garcias are right to think he’s no good for backup, even though Sheriff Graham thinks he hasn’t made up his mind. Marco Perella wears his ambiguity well as the reluctant law enforcer corralled by mob rule.
