Close to the verdict, she discreetly explained some of her background, partially sighted until a hit-and-run accident as a child rendered her blind. It seemed an admirable way to present this life detail, not a mission statement at the start, not some back story continually referred to. We saw the woman and her work long before we learnt about the past.

Yusuf Mohammed takes up the challenge to build her a new prosthetic with the required movement in the foot. Also, Akram Hussein tries to come up with a solution for a 73-year-old deaf man whose nerve endings are too damaged to have a hearing aid, and materials expert Zoe Laughlin helps a man who is paralysed from the chest down find a way of cooking for his family.
