Then theres my personal favorite episode; when they are made into the unwilling contestants on everyones favorite game show “Garfle Warfle Snick” (catchy!) where they are forced to play a Family Feud/Win Lose or Draw style game against their enemies. One of the funnier episodes of the season.

While some things have stayed the same (like the consistently excellent action, both in and out of the Voltron Lions themselves), season five can be split into two smaller story arcs that seemingly conclude some major ongoing plot elements while introducing a big new adventure for the team. The first sees Lotor—now attempting to be a trusted ally to Voltron and the galaxy-wide resistance against his father’s empire—kill his father Zarkon and bring the Galra Empire into civil war in the process. The second, meanwhile, tries to explore the new status quo of a galaxy where the Galra are fighting among themselves and Lotor is on the throne of an Empire hoping for peace rather than conquest. But it also begins an even more intriguing journey than that: Princess Allura and Lotor bonding over their shared Altean heritage, and using that bond to explore the long lost art of Altean Alchemy, the techno-magic Allura’s father used to create the Voltron Force in the first place.

Fan Buzz

The characters don't stay stagnant but change and grow over the course of the season. I thought it was brilliant, it had humor, serious scenes, and is over all a great experience. This really brings me back to my childhood in that cartoons like this aren't made anymore. It also does follow the original show and I can not wait for season 3. The perfect spice to my dish

Critics Reviews

Hunk thankfully gets a much larger chunk of focus this season. The first episode largely revolves around him and there isn’t a single food reference. Thank goodness. I love Hunk’s food gags as much as anyone but here he’s got a vital part to play in the growing Galra-Voltron alliance. He also gets a ton of moments to be a genius engineer this season, which are much appreciated. Many of the series’ long running arcs come to a head here and… oh boy, you aren’t ready. I don’t care what you’ve seen. The whispers of spoilers you might have heard. Nothing will prepare you for how some of these are paid off. Once the season gets rolling it doesn’t stop. You are in for a wild ride. <...> - by Den of Geek [Shamus Kelley]

But above all, so many of the lingering mysteries that were laid out over the last few seasons of the series have now been resolved, clearing the board for some final showdowns. And if season six is anything to go by, the show is now on course to deliver something truly exhilarating as it barrels to that conclusion. But season six throws this new status quo out the window almost as quickly as season five built it up, with a reveal whose level of shock is in tandem with how cynical you are about bad-guys-turned-good in fiction at large. Because yes, it turns out Lotor has been playing Allura and the team in an attempt to gain access to Altean alchemy and the mystical powers of quintessence, so he can forge his own twisted version of an Altean Empire. <...> - by io9.com [James Whitbrook]
