Rufus Lives! First Look at the OG Time Team in NBC's 'Timeless' Finale (PHOTO) - TVInsider - via Tvinsider

It looks like Spencer will be pulling double duty in the movie that will take place on three different continents and in three different eras. In the Season 2 finale, another version of Lucy and Wyatt (Matt Lanter), her traveling partner and sometime-boyfriend — looking both buff and battle-hardened — arrived from five years in the future. Their mission: finding Rufus (Malcolm Barrett), the lovable pilot the present-day team saw murdered before their eyes by Emma (Annie Wersching), an evil Rittenhouse operative.

Timeless Movie: First poster features stockings, holiday cheer - via Cartermatt

Given that this two-hour event is airing on NBC come Thursday, December 20, it makes a reasonable amount of sense to give the special a holiday theme and to fully embrace the season. This could also set Timeless up in a unique position where, if this really works well, it could come back with some other specials in the future. We don’t think that you can write out any possibility and the cast seems to all love working together. We’ve said a few times over now that the ideal here would be getting to get a third season in the aftermath of this airing, but if that’s not possible, why not go ahead and deliver more movies down the road? You could follow a model that is similar to Psych, which seems to want to do a movie every couple of years. (There’s no guarantee of another one for that show, but it does seem to be coming if actor interviews are any indication.)

Lanter marvels at the physical creation of the legendary Texas mission. "We were in Vancouver, and we literally built an Alamo in the parking lot. And it looked completely different (from the surroundings). We had a dusty, dry, yellowy-looking episode and Vancouver was just not that.

The 'Timeless' Movie Will Cover Two Different Time Periods, Says Eric Kripke - via Collider

“Anything is possible. I’m really proud of that show. These are some scary times, and I think that show is a force of positivity, and inclusion and diversity, in a world that, frankly, desperately needs it. I’m really proud of the message of that show. I’m proud of its heart. And everyone else who works on it feels the same. I think we’d be happy to find a way to continue that story.”

Timeless tells the story of a mysterious criminal who steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America as we know it by changing the past. The only hope is an unexpected team: a scientist, a soldier and a history professor, who must use the machine's prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of this dangerous fugitive. But can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it's too late?

Critics Reviews

That Timeless isn't groundbreaking TV shouldn't be a problem. We were thrilled for the opportunity to chat with Abigail Spencer, who has been a dream interview of ours for many years now. I cannot explain my enthusiasm for the fact that Timeless is returning to our television screens. Then there’s the other possibility. Flynn got trapped in a “predestination paradox time loop,” in which he succeeded and as a result, returns to do the deed again and again, ad infinitum.
