And then “Thank You” is such a beautiful, almost epic song. That’s the song Alice uses to introduce Camille to how she does an in-scape — she escapes, but within, with music; that’s how she gets out of the rehab center. She’s showing Camille how to use music, when Camille will use later on to do some in-scape, too. When this 16-year-old girl plays that to her new roommate, using her fingers to close her eyes, there’s something romantic about the way we used the music, almost like they’re having an affair, although we’ll discover that they’re not and it’s not about that at all. It’s about connecting to music, and how you use music in your life to heal or to love.

Out of all the characters in Sharp Objects, Amma is arguably the most suspicious one. She has a whole other secret life that she keeps hidden from Adora. Also, she has a past with Ann and Natalie that she did not tell Camille about. Why would she keep this from Camille if she had nothing to hide? Maybe a fight with her old friends took a violent turn.

The hike had been her idea. A brisk climb punctuated by postcard views of Los Angeles landmarks: the Hollywood sign, the Santa Monica Mountains, the gauzy downtown skyline. Growing up in Colorado as one of seven children, hiking had been a family ritual — her parents’ way of getting her and her siblings to burn off energy without busting through the walls or the budget.

When director David Fincher’s 2014 drama Gone Girl became a smash hit, Gillian Flynn, whose book of the same name served as the film’s source material, was already a household name. Since then, the celebrated author and screenwriter has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after talents, both for her books and her original work in film and television. The Sharp Objects HBO limited series is the latest example of this.

“It’s a dark show, and Amma is such a complex character, and there’re a lot of fans of the show already, so you want to be able to do the role justice,” she says. “But it’s a challenge to believe that you can, all of the time.”

Sharp Objects centers on reporter Camille Preaker who, fresh from a brief stay at a psychiatric hospital, must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely.

Critics Reviews

When Preaker arrives back in Wind Gap, after a very pivotal scene of the decaying urban landscape of inner-city St. Louis – an area I'm very familiar with and have in fact shot with my camera, as I'm from less than two hours to the North – her first instinct is to stay at a hotel. She doesn't want to go <...> - by The 405 [Wess Haubrich]

The Sharp Objects series finale has come and gone and certainly left us with a lot to think about. Before I get into the details of what was certainly a more fast-paced hour than we were previously accustomed to, I'll say this: I really enjoyed it. I thought the hour hit upon all the right notes, … <...> - by 25 years later site [Andrew Grevas & Laura Stewart]

One of last year’s most delightful surprises was HBO’s Big Little Lies, receiving loads of critical acclaim and going on to win multiple Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited Series. When I had heard that Big Little Lies director Jean-Marc Vallée would be helming another HBO miniseries, Sharp Objects, I <...> - by ATVandCity [I Simon]

Heck, even Camille, she may not come around often but who is to say, among all those scars, weren’t names (Well, Camille outright says there wasn’t, but many scars were inspired by things said so close enough)? Maybe things the children, or their parents, said to her so she got revenge? Then with Amma, seeing as <...> - by Wherever I Look - Season 1 [Amari Sali]

When Vanish was over, I was awestruck by the brilliant mini-series starter. This was a disturbingly mysterious Southern Gothic mini-series presented with brilliant editing and with a leading lady — Amy Adams — who I am a big fan of. When I then was equally as impressed by the second episode — Dirt <...> - by I'm Jeffrey Rex [Jeffrey Rex Bertelsen]
