'Sharp Objects' Author Gillian Flynn Has A New Mind-Bending, Female-Led TV Series - Bustle - via Bustle

In a statement provided by THR, Flynn expressed her enthusiasm to have Lane on board. "As I’ve been writing Utopia and trying to imagine the actor who could possibly embody Jessica Hyde, Sasha Lane has constantly kicked her way into my mind," the writer said. "She has the shapeshifting ability to feel at once raw, unpredictable and a little unnerving while also making you want to wrap your arms around her.”

For those viewers who have seen the series already and just want to rewatch, no warnings are needed, since you know what you're in for. But for those checking the series out for the first time, a word of caution. This show is intense, and some of the scenes are downright disturbing.

Why 'Pose,' 'Sharp Objects' Have Heat in Golden Globes Race (Column) - via Variety

With new series popping up across platforms seemingly every other day, at least one thing is certain: the traditional TV “season” as we once knew it is no longer the industry’s go-to standard. Broadcast shows that run from September through May, once the norm, now make up a vanishingly small portion of what comes out every year as more and more networks across cable and streaming turn to smaller episode counts and higher-profile creative teams that can donate their time in shorter bursts. This new wave of TV isn’t nearly as beholden to traditional schedules as the old guard, and as such, come out when their providers see fit, not when they might otherwise be expected.

'Sharp Objects' Creator Marti Noxon Heads to Netflix - via Slashfilm

“Who can resist the allure of Netflix? Not only do they continually produce ground-breaking and visually stunning content, they’ve developed a platform that’s so influential its become a verb. I Netflix at home, happily, and now I’m even more excited to Netflix for a living.”

Netflix signs show deal with 'Sharp Objects' creator Marti Noxon - via Engadget

Noxon has played an influential part in TV history in recent years, having written and executive produced Buffy the Vampire Slayer and worked on Glee, Grey's Anatomy and Mad Men. Lately, she's known for both HBO's Sharp Objects and Lifetime's Emmy-nominated UnREAL. She's not a stranger to Netflix, either, having produced the movie To the Bone.

Sharp Objects centers on reporter Camille Preaker who, fresh from a brief stay at a psychiatric hospital, must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely.

Critics Reviews

When Preaker arrives back in Wind Gap, after a very pivotal scene of the decaying urban landscape of inner-city St. Louis – an area I'm very familiar with and have in fact shot with my camera, as I'm from less than two hours to the North – her first instinct is to stay at a hotel. The Sharp Objects series finale has come and gone and certainly left us with a lot to think about. Before I get into the details of what was certainly a more fast-paced hour than we were previously accustomed to, I'll say this: I really enjoyed it. I thought the hour hit upon all the right notes, … <...> - by 25 years later site [Andrew Grevas & Laura Stewart]

One of last year’s most delightful surprises was HBO’s Big Little Lies, receiving loads of critical acclaim and going on to win multiple Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited Series. When I had heard that Big Little Lies director Jean-Marc Vallée would be helming another HBO miniseries, Sharp Objects, I <...> - by ATVandCity [I Simon]

Heck, even Camille, she may not come around often but who is to say, among all those scars, weren’t names (Well, Camille outright says there wasn’t, but many scars were inspired by things said so close enough)? Maybe things the children, or their parents, said to her so she got revenge? Then with Amma, seeing as <...> - by Wherever I Look - Season 1 [Amari Sali]

When Vanish was over, I was awestruck by the brilliant mini-series starter. This was a disturbingly mysterious Southern Gothic mini-series presented with brilliant editing and with a leading lady — Amy Adams — who I am a big fan of. When I then was equally as impressed by the second episode — Dirt <...> - by I'm Jeffrey Rex [Jeffrey Rex Bertelsen]
