Critics Reviews

Phylicia Rashad is chastising her son for not making Jamal fall completely in love with him sooner, and she says, “I don’t give a flying fig about complications with his father. I want her to suffer. I will pick the meat from her offspring’s bones while she watches helplessly.” Good Goddamn. It’s time for the anniversary special. Hakeem is performing while Lucious has an anxiety attack <...> - per New York Magazine/Vulture [Ali Barthwell]

Howard is one of the great/weird actors of our generation. Yeah, we've watched so much Empire that we're used to Howard as the bully of the bunch, but as the new Lucious, Howard has transformed on camera. He speaks in whispers, his shoulders don't command the room anymore and he's more of a fuzzy slipper wearing grandfather than a former gangster. Howard appears to be loving it, swallowing up the <...> - per TV Guide [Tim Surette]

In reality, her life is in tatters, and she should be rotting away in jail. That could be said for most of the characters, but we'll not get into that today. I am genuinely surprised that none of the other characters have figured out what Diana is up to.  He knows he was no Saint and is trying to better himself, and I don't think to be in the environment that is the company is going to <...> - per TV Fanatic [Paul Dailly]

And Jamal, free of his D-Major/Philip love triangle, has moved on to yet another tall glass of water in Warren — Angelo’s hot lawyer cousin. Although I don’t think Jamal knows he’s Angelo’s cousin, right? Jamal seems smitten and has apparently been leaving things at Warren’s apartment as excuses to see him again. It would be cute…if we didn’t know Mrs. <...> - according to Entertainment Weekly [Isabella Biedenharn]
