Alone in the Dark: An Oral History of MTV's Fear - via Mentalfloss

For MTV, it was a departure from their typical reality fare like The Real World. For producers, it was an opportunity to craft a “real” horror movie, capturing the genuine reactions of hysterical, sobbing young adults who jumped at the sound of every wind gust and creaky floorboard. To get a sense of what it took to craft this real-life Paranormal Activity, Mental Floss spoke with members of the cast and crew. Here’s what they remember about the series, its challenges, and some truly terrifying moments they still can’t quite explain.

Alone Season 6 confirmed: What date will show return to History? - via Monstersandcritics

The ten new survivalists are separated by miles when they are placed in the wilderness. Men and women fight it out in the brutally freezing conditions. This time, the location will be deep in the Canadian Arctic.

Alone Together brings millennial isolation to a surprising network - via Theweek

The result is an artifact so aggressively lackluster it's almost annoying ("Esther's way of being cute is like, not trying at all," Benji says), but its gently indifferent gravity sucks you in until you've watched five episodes without really noticing — and been joined by everyone else in the house.

An Oral History of 'Home Alone' from the Actors That Were the McAllister's - via Vice

During my adult years, I went through a phase where I resented the movie. It wasn't until a few years ago, when my son was old enough to see it for the first time, that I fully embraced it again and was proud of the fact that I was a part of something special and unique.

Home Alone: Video proves Kevin's booby traps would kill you in real life - via Independent

Titled 'Could you survive Home Alone,' Roper's experiments prove that a paint can to the face would probably break your neck, heating up a doorknob with an electric barbecue lighter would likely see the door catching fire and a crowbar to the chest would break skin, seven ribs and punctured internal organs including lungs and heart.

Fan Buzz

And it seems to have been a grave mistake! It would be nice to see each contestant go over each survival item they are bringing and why, as this is left as a mystery and detracts from the show. Hoping to see some real bushcraft and display of knowledge and skill I fantasize that I'd have been like Niclole: joyful attitude throughout, even as she had to quit because she was starving with no prospects of that changing. I await each episode to see what happens next as I find it to be a great learning experience to add to my own knowledge of being out in the bush.

Critics Reviews

Nicole has a leg up on the other contestants. When she was on Alone Season 2, she was foraging like nobody's business. She knew each and every plant and how it was used. That can come in handy when you're not catching any fish, and you're starving to death. Jesse, who was on Alone Season 4, only made it five days last time, so we don't know what he's made of yet. He's working on his shelter and has a positive mental attitude, so we'll have to watch him and see what skills he has before making a judgment. <...> - by TV Fanatic [Kim Russell]
