Ink Master is known for being a very one-on-one competition, which was a mindset the Angels clearly sought to overcome. This highly motivational attitude transcended the competition to become a dominating force on Angels. “I feel like Ink Master: Angels has such a positive message behind it,” says Doty, who made it all the way to the finale of Season 8. “You want literally everybody to do well, like you’re rooting for literally every single person in the room. And that’s one of the things that I liked most about [the show] is just how positive it is. Because for someone who wears this much black, I’m still deeply a positive person.”

If anything, I’d love to be a part of Ink Master: Angels. As for Ink Master? I never thought I’d do it again but honestly as more time goes by, the more I want to get back in it and use what I’ve learned to my advantage.

Ink Master: Angels review: Did Jimmy Butcher defeat Ryan Ashley Malarkey? - via Cartermatt

Jimmy was the artist who eventually squared off with Ryan and by and large, both of their emotional tattoos honoring shooting victims were great. Nonetheless, the final decision was probably the right one: Ryan came out on top, and technically it felt a little bit more like she had the better tattoo. There was a lot of depth to what she did and a lot of proficiency. Technically, hers was strong enough to compensate for maybe a little bit of a readability issue. Any critique we give in general is totally from an armchair quarterback perspective as someone with zero tattooing experience who would fall on their face doing any of these sort of challenges.
