Animal Planet's 'Extinct or Alive' heads to the Everglades in search of black panther - Sun Sentinel - by Sun-sentinel

In each episode of the cable network series, which debuted June 10, wildlife adventurer and biologist Forrest Galante and his crew venture to different parts of the world in search of animals such as the Zanzibar leopard in Tanzania and the Formosan Clouded Leopard in Taiwan that have been reportedly declared extinct.

Galante said that confidence is an attribute he has never lacked, and he needs that confidence when looking for these animals, many of which biologists believe should be in the history books. As far as the skeptics, the new TV host said it’s a big world, and it’s even hard to find common animals among the forests, valleys, oceans and jungles. He gave an example of coyotes in Central Park in New York City. They might be there, but the vast majority of New Yorkers have never seen one.

In this exclusive peek of the episode, you’ll see the efforts Galante takes to make sure he finds out whether his thoughts on the Pachylemur are true or not. Locals say they’ve seen the giant red animal, so armed with research he’s going to see if it’s still around. It does mean climbing the trees in the jungle, going higher than any human has been in the area and taking things to the next level of the Madagascar jungle.
