The last time we saw Princess Star Butterfly, she was handing the magical key to the Mewni kingdom over to Queen Eclipsa. She had to; she had just learned that her ancestors had stolen the throne from Eclipsa’s line by encasing the monster-loving Queen Eclipsa in crystal, handing the half-monster, half-mewman baby Princess Meteora off to a robot nanny to be raised in self-hating isolation, and plucking a nobody mewman baby from the peasantry to take Meteora’s magical royal place.
'Big City Greens': Chris and Shane Houghton on Bringing Cartoon Country Folk to the Big City - via Collider
Shane: We grew up in the country: Dirt roads, corn fields, we had farm animals, we had a pond that we swam in, our nearest neighbor was like a half-mile down the road [and] you couldn’t even see their house from our house. So we were very secluded and we were very envious of all the kids who lived in town.

“I always look for projects that feel like the creator is in the show — that there’s something personal in them,” says the Renzetti. “This show reflects who the Houghton brothers are and it has a lot about their own personal experiences. I also like how they treat their characters on the series. They never make fun of them or depict them as simple because they’re from the country. In the show, we celebrate people from all backgrounds, whether they’re from cities or small towns.”
